First American 5 speed?

As much as I like carbs my next foray into serious muscle cars is gonna be an EFI'd RB, hopefully with a 6spd. I found the car, hopefully the guy that has it will want to sell it when he finishes it... Its a 71 Charger, one owner car and the lady drove by braille by the looks of it LOL! He wants the to do the body work and he has already gathered all the parts, minus the flapper hood. It has a beautiful, original, hideaway grille already in place

Pierre, you are wrong! The first American 5speed was in the "1971 426 Hemi Wedge Six Pack 5-speed 'Cuda convertible with the factory Ford 9" rear axle."

Remember?

but doc..with that same .5 od a 5:33 gear on the hwy would actualy come back down to reality and become something acceptable right?

That it would... and I don't want to see the pictures of the butchery involved in getting it into the Barracuda, thanks very much. I already know what it takes to get a Richmond into a B-body, and that was ugly.

Yeah, Stretch... I forgot about ol' Mikey's car. :D

something tells me a supra 5..or even 6 will fit without a huge butcherblock work that a richmond would require...guess we will know before long

I've heard the Supra 5 will not only work, but bolt right up if you use the bellhousing from an early '90s Dakota 3.9 with the AX15 transmission. You need to figure out the pilot bearing/bushing and the clutch disc, but that's cake. The Supra 6-speed uses an integral bell, though.

Good info right there. :toot:

I'm a parts guy... parts fascinate me. If you ever want an exercise in frustration, go to a swap meet or junkyard with me. :D

hmm...hey fishy we know where a couple of those bells are right now dont we....how set are you on a 6 vs a 5?

I told ya I'm beyond happy with a 5 speed, 6th gear would just be a bonus, but from what Doc says..... lets rule out the 6 speed all together!
