dakota wiring

hung like a stud field mouse and
so i been playing around with features in the new 2003 dakota. I just added the overhead console with all the features of homelink and temp sensor and compass ...

well i was in the wrecking yard and seen the auto dimming mirror in a 2002 dakota so i grabbed it and the wire harness till i lost it under the dash. I have 3 wires from the mirror

1. is black ... must be ground
2. is blue/white must be power
3. is purple and i am lost as to where this wire would hook up to?

anybody have a clue or an idea of where it should be tapped in to?

yeah, Purple smells like reverse.
I guess you want to turn off auto dim while backing up

EDIT: BTW VT on the wiring diagram is Violet aka purple

i barely understand that schematic :)

so i would find that wire in the interior right beside that other wire? is it on the junction block? or near the reader port?

Hey 71 can we see the overhead console one now?

Did the mirrored truck have the console as well? My thinking is if you have both they may tie in together.

blue with a white stripe? is there a light in/ on the mirror? I drove a caravan that had a little led in it.

The schematic has very little relevance to where the wires are actually located only where they go. What would really help here is a.... wire routing diagram, if dodge even makes such an animal. I've seen some nice ones in the old AMC/Jeep books.

Historically speaking I would think there would be a connector available for all options available in a given year. Maybe go back to the yard and find it?? bring a flashlight and pop the front seat/seats to make life upside down a bit easier.

the overhead console and the mirror came out of the exact same truck.
both units had seperate wiring harnesses. i took all the wires from the top across the windsheild and down the A post and then it merged into a bigger bundle down by the fire wall. Thats where i lost the track so i cut the wires at that point

i followed this to splice things back together.

but i cant find the info on where to splice in the violet wire.

Let's get this out of the way first............ Please keep in mind this is a 2003 truck. A short could kill your whole ride, ruin your day, weekend, or wallet. I'm just tracing wires for you. What you do with that and any consequences shall be at your sole risk. I'm not a certified mechanic, just a guy who loves a good puzzle.

AUTOMATIC DAY / NIGHT
MIRROR
DESCRIPTION
The automatic day/night mirror uses a thin layer
of electrochromic material between two pieces of conductive
glass to make up the face of the mirror.
When the mirror switch is in the On position, two
photocell sensors are used by the mirror circuitry to
monitor external light levels and adjust the reflectance
of the mirror.

OPERATION
The ambient photocell sensor is located on the forward-
facing (windshield side) of the rear view mirror
housing, and detects the ambient light levels outside
of the vehicle. The headlamp photocell sensor is
located inside the rear view mirror housing behind
the mirror glass and faces rearward, to detect the
level of the light being received at the rear window
side of the mirror. When the circuitry of the automatic
day/night mirror detects that the difference
between the two light levels is too great (the light
level received at the rear of the mirror is much
higher than that at the front of the mirror), it begins
to darken the mirror.
The automatic day/night mirror circuitry also monitors
the transmission using an input from the
backup lamp circuit. The mirror circuitry is programmed
to automatically disable its self-dimming
feature whenever it senses that the transmission
backup lamp circuit is energized.
The automatic day/night mirror is a completely
self-contained unit and cannot be repaired. If faulty
or damaged, the entire mirror assembly must be
replaced.

Some pics. They s'plain themselves to me.

Looks like the power(12 volts start/run) and ground circuits for the overhead and mirror are the same. I'd tie those two to the overhead.

Now I do believe you'll find your 20 gauge violet at the connector shown. Should light a test light or meter with the truck in reverse and no time other. Connector 201 pointed to with a purple arrow.

EDIT: looking at that connector C201 again, You want Circuit L1 which is cavity 11. 20 ga Violet with black stripe.

my above post is full of holes, I'll keep looking but I have a headache now.

Feel free to jump in anyone.

That connector C201 is the one that should be on the donor truck. the male should be in yours? Do they still cap these?
