Like we say in Holland: "Beter laat, dan nooit."
I know, I would normally do a whole model line, but because a lack of time and resource I stuck to the Sport Fury GT.
The Sport Fury GT combined both luxury and performance in one big C-body. The Sport Fury a Fury with an upgraded trim package now got the GT option which offered the performance part.
It was based on the two door Fury hardtop; with as a standard engine the 440ci 4 barrel V8, but you could only chose one other engine, the 440ci six pack. All of the Fury GT's came with a TorqueFlite automatic transmission, so I suspect it was the only option.
The interior was luxurious, featuring either a cloth and vinyl bench, vinyl bench or the always cool vinyl bucket seats. All were available in a large variety of colors and combinations. Also available to upgrade the interior trim was the Brougham package. The Brougham package included the comfort seating package, trunk dress up, rear seat back sound insulation pad and vinyl roof.
The Fury GT got a side strobe tape treatment, runner stripes (Available in white, black and burnt orange) (these also appeared on the S/23) and GT block letters on the front fenders. The hood had two power bulges and they came with chrome exhaust tips. Under this enormous car there were 4 H70x15 tires on steel road wheels. Such cosmetics do indeed belie a Supercar constitution. Heavy-duty torsion bars, rear springs, shocks and front anti-sway bar, coupled to a new, extra-wide track. Thus endowed, it can do things a lot of so-called "Supercars" can't do. It's the ultimate sleeper.
This was the second year the 440 six pack would be available on a Mopar product. Last year it was introduced as a mid-year option on the Road Runners and Super Bee's. The only difference made to the engine was that it was no longer made with the aluminium intake from Edelbrock, instead Mopar casted it's own cast-iron version. This held down the costs of the production. However the engine was still rated at 390hp and it with it's 3 x 2v carburetor set up you have a great performance engine. And at shows you will get a lot of attention.
I know it is not much, but these cars are kind of a mystery and I don?t know a whole lot about them. This was actually the first time I really looked into these C-bodies. I had heard about the 440-6 GT, so I thought it might be interesting. Turned out these cars are pretty damn cool. I like the idea of performance in a luxury C-body, another great car from a great era for Mopars.
