Both are secured to the K-member, so the only thing holding the UCA is really the inner fender, and it's seriously overtaxed. It's a lot of fun to steer, too. Look at the picture again. See the rag joint? Since no E-body ever had one, the car has the wrong column in it, with neither an upper shaft bearing nor a steering wheel. The shaft has about 3" of play in it at the upper end, which makes using Vise-Grips a rather interesting experience.
