65 Valiant build

id bet yours are just as old as mine, same setup a couple of metal tabs on the ramps that lock them in....in my early days it was nice to drive up and remove the ramp, and then i started using them exactly how you have been..jack up car put under wheel

and they are STOUT lil bastards..i stopped driving up them when i had the ramps take out a tire

pretty sure i got mine at a garage sale in the early 90s

It's been a few weeks but I finally found a couple of hours to spend on Stinky today.

I'm committed now! :D

I marked out the cut lines for the mini-tub portion of this shit show. I drilled out the spot welds and removed the right side inner wheel house. 20220115_184009.jpg20220115_184003.jpg20220115_184036.jpg20220115_184021.jpg20220115_184026.jpg20220115_170609.jpg20220115_170603.jpg20220115_164446.jpg20220115_180443.jpg20220115_184727.jpg20220115_164435.jpg20220115_180449.jpg20220115_160025.jpg20220115_160023.jpg20220115_180440.jpg20220115_160008.jpg20220115_154752.jpg20220115_154740.jpg

im kinda curious of a few things..since..well i have to find/make rear tubs for the lloyd as..i have NONE to start with

More cutting.

The other wheel house has been removed and the trunk floor has been cut and trimmed to size. Now some cleanup on the metal and the fabracobbling can begin.

I need to trim the package tray supports but I need to fit the wheel houses first so I can determine where to cut them. I did trim the arch off of each so I can weld them back in once I determine where they need to sit.20220116_135025.jpg20220116_134934.jpg20220116_125847.jpg20220116_115816.jpg20220116_125833.jpg20220116_125716.jpg20220116_120537.jpg20220116_114853.jpg20220116_114842.jpg20220116_153727.jpg20220116_153704.jpg20220116_153643.jpg20220116_145416.jpg20220116_145353.jpg20220116_145344.jpg20220116_134941.jpg20220116_134931.jpg20220116_125839.jpg20220116_120551.jpg20220116_153720.jpg20220116_114847.jpg20220116_153649.jpg20220116_145420.jpg20220116_145413.jpg20220116_145349.jpg

i figured you were doing it that way...it was my original intent to do the same for the lloyds rears but..going from a 2.5inch wheel to an 7 is kinda a big jump LOL

I welded the floor pan to the frame rails and ground the welds. I also cleaned all the old paint from the rails where the inner wheel house will be welded to it.

Next weekend I'll fit the inner to the rails and start fabracobbling the filler panel to the two halves of the wheel house.

Fabracobbling... the more I see of your work, the less that word applies to anything you do.
Thank you. The term is more about me than anything. It keeps me laughing at myself because I always feel like I could have done a better job. I'm a bit critical of my own work.

Yup, that's whyt doesn't really apply to you. :)

Clecos!!!
Today I got to use them again! I also used my contour gauge, air saw, various grinders and clamps.

All in all my first attempt at minitubs is coming along nicely.

So THAT'S where my automatic center punch went... ;)

Nice work, as always.

I had a big bag of Klecos and the tool left over from the shop. We used them a fair bit, they were great for laying out the colour schemes on the stock cars when we didn't have a chassis to mount them on.
Loaned them to a "friend" when he was putting his race car together. He says he returned them "One day when you weren't home, I left them on the front step".
Funny thing is, his facebook profile showed him using Klecos on his new car, and the tool had orange paint on it strangely similar to mine...

Love the REAL Vise Grips!

I found some time to spend in the garage. That time was divided between the valiant and 2n tractor repairs.

The mini tubs are all fit up. I just need to remove the trunk support brackets and it's time to weld.

I've made a bit of progress since I last updated this thread. I found enough time to weld the right inner fender to the 3" filler panel. I still have some finish work to do there. I also fit that tub and made the bracket to attach the trunk lid/spring support bracket to the wider tub. I carefully removed the original only to find it wont fit do to all of the angles being completely different.
I also made a couple of flanges to weld to the floor pan so I had something to weld the bottom edges of the tub to.20220705_144823.jpg20220705_131745.jpg20220705_144925.jpg20220705_144940.jpg20220705_132504.jpg20220705_152014.jpg20220705_162447.jpg20220705_154241.jpg20220705_165150.jpg20220705_132450.jpg20220705_152006.jpg20220705_161142.jpg20220705_132423.jpg

Looks like I haven't updated this in a while. Some of that is because I only recently started working on it again.

The right side tub is mostly welded in. A few small welder issues are to blame I guess. The first was a empty gas tank. The second was found after some welding. The torch trigger was sticking. It wasn't feeding wire when released but it was still alowing gas to flow. (now I know why the tank was empty).

I disassembled the switch (twice) to clean and lube and I'm back in business. The only thing that stopped me yesterday was sciatic nerve pain.

Hopefully I'll be making regular progress again.

I only had a couple of hours to play with in the garage today. The mid day was spent celebrating my niece's birthday.

The right tub is welded in. Todat I finished the floor seam and welded in the suport at the top of the arch that attaches to the rear upper seat mount area. All that remains is to weld in the trunk spring support and grind a few welds down then move over to the other side.
