Well gang, it was a great day at our local track for the Big Green Monster.
I went along with Kevin and pitted for team Green Machine in what turned out to be a stellar day. We arrived late morning and set up next to Team 440 and began unloading the car. Kevin got her fired up and made his way to the lanes for some test passes. Car looked good on launch and clicked off a 6.80 1/8th mile pass....not bad, but better things were coming.
We pulled a plug and she looked a little lean so we jetted up and the car dropped a 10th so we were going in the right direction. A few more passes and we jetted up again and it picked up another 10th....plug still looked a little lean.
Kevin entered the brackets and made it to the semi's where he was taken out be a slower, but very well dialed in chebby. Poor track prep in his lane hurt the 60ft et's and he couldn't run close enough to the dial in.
A match race was setup for local Mopar bragging rights. The other car is a dedicated race car, backhalved Cuda that weighs at least 700lbs less than Blown68 and is running an indy head, roller cammed 446. Both cars launched well and it looked close until Kevin pulled away at the 330' mark and took the stripe. The Green Monster ran a 6.57 to the Cuda's 6.63 on that pass and that was a major milestone and new best. The 6.57 translates to a 10.2x 1/4 mile pass using the NHRA conversion chart, not bad....not bad at all !
Overall, the car (and pilot) performed excellent. Every time we threw in some more fuel it picked up so this was a good learning experience. The rear suspension is working very well and with some descent track prep it layed down a 1.50 60ft. There is a lot more in this car and it needs to get to a track that will allow for a full 1/4 mile pass with a descent shut down area. The boost guage is only registering 8psi with the current pulley arrangement. It'll be interesting to see how well the car does with a pulley swap and 12 psi of boost....hopefully that happens sometime this fall.
The icing on the cake was an award for best engineered Chrysler and a $50.00 prize with a trophy. Congrats Kevin, both you and the car performed extremely well today. I really enjoyed pitting and hanging out.
I know how you 'Nuts like pics, so here are a few for your viewing pleasure.
