Rusty's not very quiet cuda progress

The weird little black bracket to the right of the RH bracket that looks like a throttle-cable clamp with an extra stud at a right angle is exactly that. It's a cruise-control throttle cable clamp. The silver one behind it is the standard clamp you'll want to use unless you're installing cruise. If you've no use for the cruise clamp, let me know.
I am almost sure that I've used those to raise the throttle cable up a little for a high-rise. There might have been one on the road runner.

Started with the A/C condenser, I hope that line to the receiver comes with the kit, will be no fun to clean up! 20231107_130950.jpgThen I started on the lower section of the fuel line, I had to strap it to the alternator bracket to keep it off the alternator.20231107_130805.jpgThat put a little tension on the hoses.20231107_130825.jpgIt;s still rubbing the compressor & water pump but I will wait till I get it hooked up at the carb before I make the final bends20231107_130915.jpgIt's in the general vicinity of where it needs to be! 20231107_134010.jpg

Re-checked the full throttle on the carb, I put the open square hole plate closest to the carb & it looks good, I will re-check when I bolt it down.

While I was out there I gave the nasty manifold a few coatings of aluminum coil cleaner, got some of the nastiness off for you. 20231107_154340.jpg
there is one brass fitting that broke in there (temp sensor I think) there still some brass in the hole, my easyouts did not work well!

The carb's going to clear that plate without issue. It's the manifold itself that's going to create a clearance issue if there is one.

Don't get old guys, I was pretty sure I had one of these, but never found it, that's when I attempted the repair on the broken one, well I'm down the basement getting an estimate on a new sump pit & the corner of it stuck out from behind a stack of boxes!
Now the other came out pretty good, will clean this up & decide which one to use, the new one might be easier to resell?20231107_201703.jpg

I feel your pain, man... I feel your pain.

This reminded me of when we rebuilt the front suspension on the Valiant. I knew we were doing it that weekend, so I ordered all the required parts. This was shortly after we replaced the frame rail, so we were doing multiple things at once. I needed something from my basement, so down I went and started digging through boxes... "Hey, here's all the front-end parts I'd already bought for the Valiant!" That meant I had a complete set of spares for every wearing part in the front suspension and steering.

I still do, which is good because half of that stuff's gone dodo now. The parts are not far from the NOS 3.55:1 ring and pinion I bought for a 741 case, which I set atop the NOS 3.55:1 ring & pinion I already had for a 741 case I'd forgotten I bought a couple of years prior. Ultimately, through rearranging and organizing, I found a third set of the same thing, the origin of which I literally cannot recall nor explain.

As of yet I can't find the pinion snubber, I had an adjustable one that I never put back on the other car, not sure what I did with that either, I'd prefer the stock one for this car but if either turns up I'm NOT buying another!

Yet another problem, went to my mechanic to get a price on tires, the coopers, his dealer had them for 12 bucks more, I was ready to give the go ahead (He's gotta eat too) till the white letters came up, his dealer only has blackwalls says the others were discontinued.
One reason for not buying online was if there is a problem he can go right back to them,
So for blackwalls I'm at 160 per mounted & balanced.
If I buy em I'm at about the same price all in, but he loses any profit margin, he would do it for me my whole family goes there, but I don't feel right, but now if they were discontinued how do I know how old they are & will I be dry rotting .
Need 5, so I'm at 800, oouchy!
He can get the other brand mentioned (goodrich I think) 30 bucks more (with the letters) that pushing 1000 bucks for friggen tires.

How out of touch with the olden days would the black walls be???

since my theme is black details anyway???

I ran blackwalls on my Challenger back in the mid-90s. I prefer that look so it wasn't a big deal for me.

I'm not a fan of BFG radial TAs, If I remember correctly they were too hard for spirited driving. I had a set of Comp TAs, and they weren't too bad.

Well the day started off ok, I cleaned up the new valence insert & compared with my repaired one, I think my silver is a little light, but the new looks too dark, I'm not sure it's even painted, which way do I go now? 20231108_121349.jpg20231108_121405.jpg

Do an image search of cars equipped both ways and see if you can live with it.

Nobody makes tires in musclecar sizes that are suitable for spirited driving unless you're talking about straight-line performance. That's been the case about forever. Everything is rock hard, and has been since I bought my first car (I've never seen a Traction A, Temperature A tire in something I'd put on one of my cars). It's one of the reasons I went to 17" wheels for my '74. I can still get tires with a good-looking amount of sidewall (255/50R-17, 27" overall diameter) that are rated to 178MPH and very sticky. I think the treadwear rating on them is about 120, so 20K miles without being on the wear bars would be an accomplishment.

Now it all goes down hill fast, I put the new boot on the drivers side, it's not even pulled down all the way20231108_124612.jpglooks rather large!
So I go around to the one that came with the control are, much smaller, but then I see it's starting to crack too, now I'm getting DEPRESSED!!!!!!!!20231108_124652.jpg20231108_124730.jpgSo I compare the loose boot that came with the kit (that I just put on) to the boot on the ball joint (which is the one that shredded on the other side) that I didn't use, the loose one looks wider???

Where the heck do I go for FRESH (proper) boots!

The boots on that last set are the only ones you've shown that look to be of reasonable quality. Not great, but better than the crack-prone hard plastic others you've shown.

Here's what comes on the Moog parts, straight off our store shelf. Nice, pliable, long-lasting rubber.
(If you zoom in on the photos, you can see that even current Moog stock still says "Made in U.S.A.")

Local tire guy wouldn't talk about Coopers, even though he had a Cooper display right ther ein front of me. It as a case of "I can't get that model, have you looked at the Radial T/As?" Yes, they were 4 for the price of 5 Coopers IIRC. I bought them from Tire Rack, and they have a contract for installation with NTB which is near me. They shipped them to the shop.

I always feel guilty for not supporting business I know, but on the other hand, do they feel guilty for not giving me a discount, or similar. No, they do not.

FWIW in 78 I was running a whitewall on the front and BSW Gulf Cruisemaster G60-15s. Gulf tires were made by BFG, so those were the same as whatever their top tire was at the time. Somehow the station I worked at ended up with them in stock so I got them at cost. I might have run the rears with the RWL out, but that dumb name stopped that from happening.

OK I think I'm just going blackwalls & this way I can work with my guy.

Can one just buy moog boots? I will do a search not that that usually does me any good!

You say the last set, is it was the one with the ball joints I'm not buying those just to get the boots.
If it was the first ebay one I would try them & hope I'm not throwing more money out the window!

Now I'm out there trying to find something to work on but I'm so pissed at this car now I didn't even want to think about it, so I took the intake I washed off & started cleaning that more!
Mindless rubbing & drilling the wire wheels! 20231108_152132.jpg20231108_152151.jpg
Now I didn't want to spoil all your fun so there are many nooks & crannies I didn't get!

Now if I've destroyed this on you in any way, just let me know & I'll toss it back in the junk pile!
