Barely got them home...
Had someone come up to me last week while I was leaving the junkyard & ask me if I could use 2 more Diplomats. He "just wanted them gone & out of my yard, you could have them"...I said "Sure!".
I had a few tire problems arise w/my Ram so we used my buddy's '94 Grand Cherokee 4x4 to go get the cars.
The first one we grabbed was a brown '82 w/blown motor.
We dragged it out of the weeds, & changed 3 of the tires & happened to notice the left rear was seized up. Figuring it would break loose on the pavement, we took off....me steering the '82. Long story short, the tire never broke loose, the tire blew & flew off the car later & ruined the rim (this is all on the backroads...90% of the trip is over gravel). All we had to put on was another junk tire/rim...so we did & let the left rear slide along on the flat tire the rest of the way home.
Then we went back & got the '86 w/bad trans. The owner couldn't find the keys & I didn't have a key that would work, so we ended up breaking the lock on the steering wheel enough to steer it & disconnecting the column shift rod & putting it in neutral that way.
Dragged it up in the owner's driveway to change THOSE tires....the left rear on THIS car is seized up too! :o ....unfrigginbelieveable...
So we got the wheel off, & spent about a 1/2 hour whaling on the brake drum & finally got it off & dragged it home.

More details: the '82 is pretty basic, but w/tilt column, tan Salon interior, & my buddy said it had a rear sway bar (I didn't look)... 7 1/4" rear, but the thing is getting scrapped. The driver's side fender is paper thin & even the inner fender is all rusted to hell.
The '86 is basically the same thing, small rearend, 1/4s are starting to rust & only 1 of the doors opens & closes nicely. It does have power windows/locks, Red Salon interior/bench. We tried starting it, but the carb is seized up.
I'm still going to get a good look underneath at the framerils etc. to make sure he '86's are ok.
But as of now, the '82 is getting parted/scrapped & the '86 will more than likely get fixed.
Not bad for free & 5 1/2 hours work for about 40 miles in 2 round trips lol.

Ah yes, scavanging. Half the fun is gettin 'em home. :D

The left front frame rail on the 84 I scrapped was basically gone, gave me a moment to reflect on my life as I watched it buckling on the hoist while I was under it. [smilie=shocked.gif] [smilie=a:

LOL gotta love those " it should loosen up" LOL screaming and kicking all the way home lol

yummy sway bars

Too bad ya dont live down here Cooter, We'd be one heck of a pair. Like the Truck deal I got, bought a pretty nice '85 150 Royal SE 2wd with 30 inch mudders nearly new for $700, then bought back my old BB Truck for $450. Then a week after that I bought my '86 for another $450.

I'm truck-rich right now, got 6 of em and may get 2 more before its all said and done.

Then theres the 3 Dippys I've got, the 2 '70 Furys, the 2 C-Barge 4-drs, then the pair of '78 F-Body 2-drs, along with a New Yorker and 2 '77-'78 Furys, and then a '74 Coronet!

Geeze, too many cars! BUT, one cannot ever have too many.

I wasn't exactly thrilled about having a tire squaking for minutes on end, then having it blow out & become airborne....yet I still laughed about it :)
Beeper- Know what you mean about the frame-rails, I scrapped an '84 because of that very problem. HATED to do it, loved the car & it was my graduation present from my folks..
No pics yet; 1 digital is busted & the other $20 digital....I might as well take pics of the TV while it's on a channel I don't get.
I actually have my '87 & '85 Dips sold, the 87 will probably go by this time next week...the 85 is just waiting for me to finish it.
Trailer? What's that? LOL [smilie=e:
