Jamies BB '78 longbed progress!

OK guys,

The project truck itsself started out life as a Slant Six 4-spd OD longbed. Somewhere along the line it broke something inside the motor, so its been sitting for a long time. a Friend of mine and a friend of his have swapped it back and forth a few times. No one ever did anything with it, so my friend got it back. I was interested because it was pretty decent in itsself and was REAL similar to my first truck, a '79, same color even

So, for storing some trucks at my place, he basically gave it to me. Yep a freebie! I've let it sit as well, working on other projects. Never really did get started on it, other than taking parts off the motor for a buddy of mine with a Slant 64 Dart.

So, I one day decided to just stick a 318/auto in it so maybe I could sell it in the spring. The motor was pulled and junked out with another car. Then I got the wild hair to do another BB swap. It would be easy, I had another '77 or '78 D-100 longbed out back with a non-original 400 in it that was supposed to be good.

So, the motor came out of the parts truck (it was rusty and a friend wanted the front clip for his RC). and then promptly went into the '78. I also scavenged the automatic column and shift linkage out of the parts truck as well. So, thats where she sits. I did swap on an '86 hood because I dislike the birdbaths and I also plan to swap in an '80 quad light support and grille.

I did end up checking the odometer and it read 97k, I believe that to be original. Under all that dust the dash looks great as does the door panels. GB door cracked from that window being down but otherwise, its just fine!

Here are some pics where it stands right now! Yes that motor has a Torker 383 on it, no its not going to stay! too much for a stock 400! Going to put a stock intake on it with a 600 Edelbrock that I just scored.

Stay tuned for updates!

That car is LONG gone!

Anyway all I did today was pull off the Torker. Damn thing is pretty light, of course I'm used to dealing with stockers! Since I dont have a totally clean intake (as in rusty/scaly inside) a friend of mine is going let me have at a 383 one. Hopefully tomorrow I get one step closer to firing this bad boy up.

Well, it lives! I was able to finally fire it up today! But, I really F-d up at first. I ended up changing the ECU, cap/wires, rotor, before finally figured out I was running it with the plug wires bass-acwards! The only one right was number one, no wonder it wouldnt run at all! Once I placed em CCW, the thing lit right off. Sounds pretty good too.

Still got to bolt in the radiator and shroud, replace the cooler lines, throw in a driveshaft, hook the linkage up, then hook the PS up and she's ready to rock and roll!

Here are a couple pics of the motor now that its together!
