If your in the market for cheap tires...

...get 'em now.

U.S. government placed tariffs, which will amount to 35 percent the first year, 30 percent the second and 25 percent the third, on tire imports from China.

Goes into effect this Saturday.

We have been shying away from pushing the Asain import tires (Kumho is one example) for awhile now. Oh we'll sell 'em to you should you request them specifically, ultimately it's the consumers choice.
Certainly demand for stateside manufactured tires is going to be on the rise which could cause a shortage of certain brands (Cooper for one) as several U.S. tire plant's have been closed the past few years partly due to the swell of Chinese imports.
This is really going to stir up a shitstorm, a quick google search on tire tariffs will find you all the gory details.....

Yup, just one more reason for the horse and buggy Amish to be laughing at us when the shit hits the fan.

Would've liked a set before winter but all I have left this week is change. :)

I disagree. We have had way more problems with the Kumhos than the Coopers. Premature wear and ply seperation has convinced us to quit stocking them. We've had alot of pissed customers that got nowhere near the tread life expectancy advertized for certain models. We'll only sell 'em if the customer insists it's what they want. Had a set on my Ram when I bought it, hated them. I wouldn't put them on my wheelbarrow. :dgt:

The last pair I got were Coopers right before retiring the dynasty, pretty sweet. That's from a local shop and it's what I had in mind next go round. But increased price (naw, they ain't just going to try and get the tariff back ) of the Chinese tires will inevitably increase demand and price of the domesticats (meeerrow).

With the well advertised problems with other Chinese imports, who would knowingly put themselves and their family on Chinese tires?

first set of kumhos were mud tires and deer gawd those things owned...had several sets of "performance" tires of thers as well and nothing but good....course neither of which are general use "cheep" type

Yep Kumhos suck! The ware out fast broken belts and lots of ply separation and sever cracking between the tread on the mud tires. We no longer sell them do to these issues.

We had one older fella come in and ask about those "CUMHOLE" tires. Mike and I laughed our asses off at that one. We still call them "CUMHOLES".

My old roommate Jimmy told me years ago the high-perf Kumhos are second-to-none. At the time, he was autocrossing a '95 Z/28.
