general progress and update on Volvo

Robertson_Tech

Dopameans and SodaPals proud dad.
The elect had to rewire the shops feeding power to mine and replace the complete elect panel but I not have a working aircompressure :giggedy:

The head i pulled from the volvo 145s was still all to gather but I needed to test the compressor out so I pulled down the head and ported it and took off the sharp edges from the combustion chamber.

The Air compressor that you all led me to get worked great I can almost get through a full some before the compressure kicks on and it kicks off quick after a few hrs of using the die grinder with little time shut off it the compressor wasn't too hot.

I am very happy. The 71 dodge truck is waiting for me to have it towed I have a signed title :)

No snags yet. I am trying to rent a house near the shop but ran into a few snags I hope to move in soon. :giggedy:

more time to work problems found far

1) CAM LOBES worn off will replace with new cam.

2) MAIN bearings were badly work ( that explanes the low oil pressure )

3) All the top rings were broken and had been for a long time ( no wounder I had blow by )

I had a spot of rust in the right inner wing

Us parts guys call that the LEFT inner. As in driver's side on a left hand drive car.
It's fun when the City of Phoenix calls for parts on one of their dual side steer garbage trucks:
"Is that on the driver's side or the passenger side?"
"Yes."
"Well, which is it?"
"That depends upon which side the driver's driving from."
"You could have told me you're working on a dual steer truck."
"You could have asked.":bwuhaha:

not going well

The machine shop boss forgot to call me and tell me that the Volvo needed to be bored to the next size then he want on vacation, his forman could not figure out why rings were not ordered so he ordered std rings.

I went in to town to pick it up take it to R/T dev south and to build it and get done with it then he tells me that[smilie=2:
Only 160 for new pistons and boring but was waisted the 10 days the boss was on vac... The time costs more than the parts...

now i had all the parts but keepers I wanted to get new ones I overnighted them from the Volvo dealer called to make sure they would be ready drove 60 miles to get them and was told sorry but the main parts order system had a problem no orders went in on the day you ordered them... Sorry you were not informed..

Started putting the new pistons in and they were mounted on rods backwards flipped them correctly set the end gaps on the rings checked side gap then used a cool new tool to install the rings and on the oil tension ring there was red and green pained on the 2 ends I made sure I saw them both then installed all the rest of the rings, and then cleaned and just like if I was working on a million dollor robot I rechecked it all just before dropping it in the whole red no green.

How the heck I started to pull the rings off and the 2nd ring using my cool new tool got broke .....

I pulled the oil ring expander off and when I cleaned it I washed off the green it was fine..

This messes up my time line the parts started coming in today for the dart..
