Friday is THE day.....

Spawn

I'm just sittin here wasting time.. and
Im going to be paying for my truck.... a 1976 Plymouth Trail duster.... its 2wd and for right now it has the soft top on it.... was setup with a 440 but right now no motor or trans.... but for 400 bucks.... it's well worth it..... AS SOON AS I GET IT I WILL POST PICS.... :shifty:

If it's an original 440 truck--as much as I hate to say this about any truck--it should be restored. Traildusters are rare enough; by the mid '70s any 440 truck was scarce. One of my old roommates in Atlanta had an original 440 Club Cab '78 Adventurer, and while I can't say for sure, I think it was one of less than 80 built.

i dont know if it is an original 440 truck.... gonna have to disect the vin and fender tag if its there.... but i will check into it.... definitely

I think there's one booting around town here. I see it in the summer time with the top down....

full soft or half soft?.....being a 76 i HIGHLY doubt it..but i have to ask...is it a "cut door" or non cut door truck..."most" of the cut door trucks were 74/5 but ive seen a very VERY small handfull of 76's with the factory cut doors.....being a trailduster makes it rare...being 2wd makes it VERY rare..if its a 440 truck it may be a 1 of 1 truck

when i say "cut door" im talking about the upper frame from the top corner of the wing window across the top door frame and down to the door lok is all part of the roof of the truck..giveing a MUCH cleaner looking truck when the roof is off...probelm was they leaked like a bitch and wind noise was always present

im pretty sure it has the full frame doors.... and it is a full soft top.... like i said when i get it home im gonna go through alot of the stuff to see what it has and what it dont have.... where can i find the tag? isnt it on the cowl? or is it somewhere else?

If memory serves, the body-code information on the trucks was on a sticker under the hood. If the hood's been changed, you'll never know. Actually, most of the ones at which I've looked that did have the original sticker, the decal was seriously degraded or completely lost due to engine heat. This was the case with the Wiener Dodge, as well as a factory-bucket no-back-seat '78 4WD Ramcharger 440/auto I considered purchasing back when I was married. Had the Ramcharger not been so rusted, I'd have bought it due to its rarity and the fact that there was a ton of documentation, including paperwork verifying its use as a Chelsea Proving Grounds "chase vehicle" for the first year or so of its life.

on rc/td there is also a sticker on the body just below the striker ..tho "most" of the info is on the bottom of the hood like doc said

wow doc that could have been a cool one to bring back from the dead with that kind of documentation

best document i "wish" i had of mine was a pic of mine 20+ feet in the air in the arizona desert long befor i got it....the pic was owned by a friend of mines GF who hated me :(

ok i'll check it out when i get over there.... cant i also decode the vin and see what motor it came with factory that way?

A factory 440 will have a D as the fifth character in the VIN. *waits impatiently for pics*

yup yup...we want some damn pic's

always lusted after a soft top for mine...settled for the "half top" and a rag down the back.....HOWEVER i have a "true" half top mostly breweed sitting here...the "half top" that was on my truck when i got it was nothing more than the hard top cut off at the front end of the rear side glass(quite common i might add)..the bonus of the half top is that it WILL sit in the box with the door arch areas of the top resting on the wheel wells...its such a nice fit that HARD wheeling wont budge it much....and i had my truck rut jumping(hitting 4 rows of ruts the WRONG way)

the "true" half top ive got brewed is the factory roof on a "normal" pu cut off even with the bed..flat bottoms welded onto it...and my old half top will donate its windshield mounts whenever i get back to it..the bonus here should be an actual glass back window and a mostly lockable truck...i think a club cab top would cover the roll bar better tho..but not sure it would fid in the bed the same way......i invision idealy haveing the half top finished and then makeing a 3 piece fiberglass bed cap that sits 1 inch below the INSIDE of the bed rails with a seal lip/gutter bolted down in the factory top location on the sides of the bed..the end piece would have a drip rail to hook into the half top....this way when weather is questionable or security is needed you can pull the top throw it in the bed and pop it back on when ya need to and no worrys about weather or break in's

something to consider "if" your up for it..dimple the inside of the doors just above the door hinge pin...and make sure ALL 4 pins come out the top(ive seen some trucks with them in upside down)...a quick tap from a hammer will pull the door pins out and you can pop the doors off(asumeing you dont have power windows and door locks).....for that "jeep" look and feel...besides those non cut door frames look silly when the tops off....and you wont have to worry about the door not lineing up ...its still flawlessly aligned.....pulling a door becomes a 1 man job..roll the windows down..hold door frame and pull the pins and can litteraly be done in seconds

i'll have to try that sometime 69.5.... thanks for all the info.... the pics will be up on saturday....
