Been fighting tuning issues with the New Yorker for some time now. Today my roomate and i were playing around with the timing and ignition when he noticed something odd about the MSD wiring. I got online and checked with MSD and other archives and sure enough, the idiot that i bought the car from got some wiring crossed on the MSD! [smilie=b: We rewired it according to the tech archive and MSD's website and holy cow did this thing run different!! [smilie=e: Idle jumped WAYYY up and we had to take about 25 degrees out of the timing......again!! [smilie=e: I think the dist. shaft might be worn because the timing is a bit jumpy at times. Is it possible to wire an MSD or ignition system wrong and still have it running and driveable? I guess it must be because i've been driving it this way since i bought it. [smilie=e:

Oooh Bob! :D He stumbled right into that one eh? [smilie=e:

Glad to hear it is running better Tim. [smilie=c: Is that a stock distributor or MSD?
Easy enough to check for worn shaft....

While you are there, slap a few bucks out and get the MSD distributor. It is sooo purty. ;)

A true 4-5k motor shouldn't have a sloppy timing chain or a worn distributor shaft. [smilie=e:

how about one with 6k?

Even the original plastic toothed cam gear will survive 60k and the distributor well beyond that.
