Do not use aluminum rivets to...

hold on your 1/4 turn Dzus fastener mounting brackets on your car. Use steel rivets instead, or bolts with nylock nuts. Aluminum rivets can fail, and if they do, your hood will fly off while you're going 110 mph. It will go abour 40 feet in the air, flipping end over end. It will also fly across both lanes, and when it finally lands, it will hit the guardrail and bounce into the grass.

Don't ask me how I know. [smilie=e:

So..i guess things are going great for you again Nac.. [smilie=e:

Ah well your lucky, the hood didnt hit another car
or worse... [smilie=e:

so I guess turning it in on your insurance is out of the question?? [smilie=e: [smilie=e:
Hope everyone is o.k.

soooo hows the hood ?
Actually, it's repairable, surprisingly enough. It's only $199 for a new one, and I hate fiberglass work, so I may just buy another one. I'm going to switch from Dzus to pins, so I'd have to fill the 10 Dzus mouning holes in my hood, along with repairing the carnage from the unmanned space flight it took. For $199, it's probably not going to be worth doing.

Dang, that sucks. [smilie=s:

I was driving the Duster to a big Mopar car show and saw a mangled Plum Crazy purple hood on the side of the freeway, looks like it flew off a Charger or something. Don't know why the owner didn't stop and pick it up, didn't he notice it was gone? [smilie=e:

& here you were worrying about my Ram's bumper...I'm hoping the 110 mph was at the track?[smilie=e: (JK!!)
Glad nothing got hit by it, that's for sure. Probably would've taken someones' melon off if it did.... [smilie=e:

The hood weighs about 15 pounds, unlike your bumper. [smilie=e:

Yes, I was at the track. I was beating the other guy, too, but I lifted when the hood came off, and he passed me. It was at about the 1000 foot mark. I ran 12.29 at 98 mph. :D Woulda been my best run of the day if I didn't lift.

I was towing a 69 Roadrunner and hit a tornado on ol' hwy72 outside of Tupelo Miss.,a few years back, and lost the factory steel hood,I had my peterbilt truck so,driving wasn't a problem,I never knew I lost it in the pitch black, finally it was raining so hard, that car's were literally crawling in both lanes,so I pulled off to avoid rolling over one,and take a well needed nap,got up around daylite, and was watering a tire, when I noticed something not right, [smilie=2: ,damn hood was missing,It was a sunday morning,so I turned around and trolled about 35mph,in the left lane for about an hour looking for it,never found it,it was a nice str8 orig. paint car too,oh well !

NEWS FLASH

at this years annual square frisby competition a new record was set by a clever mopar enthusist who was able to launch his square frisby from a strange moving land based device at record speeds & distance. several other participants protested but after reviewing the rule book the victory was given to NAC.

too bad man. must of scared the chit out of you. i had my hood fly open on my 01 ram a few years back, smashing the windshield & blinding my visability. glad i was on a straight away & stoppped.

oh yeah with the 15lbs less weight you might have broken out. lol

Now Ive never heard of losing a metal one before, but most sane people pull over for a tornado. You dont have to be crazy to drive truck but it helps. [smilie=e:

A friend of mine did that very thing. Head too far up his ass (in a hurry), to bolt up the hood hinges. Fifty feet in the air, landed on edge...instant scrap metal.

Fortunately it was only a Camaro (also explains the head placement [smilie=e: ), so a new hood was easily found...
