Dealers closing?

I'm in the Teamster's Union. Basically, we install stereo's and other accessories on new cars that come through the enormous shipping yard on the Fraser River docks. There's lots of talk of extended or permanent Lay-offs.

Hopefully the shitter will pass.

ill say it now...

its a godamned shame on 2 fronts.....part of this could have been sidesteped if the goverment would have let alot of the euro companys into the states..hell look at what subaru has managed to do...we all know alfa/fiat wanted in and have been turned away for some 10 years now...thats a CRAPLOAD Of jobs weve been turning away..everything from the plants to the dealers, that could right now be taking up the slack and snatching up the fallin and converting em to alfa/fiat

i wonder how many other companys have been quietly turned away that could be saving the automotive industry workers lives?

I just got layed off from Tucson Dodge last week, along with 2 other techs and possibly another! Rumors of the Chrysler dealership here moving into the new shop we just got and leaving their facility.. there sure is enough empty bays now :doubt:

HEY Moparman--- isnt there an osterich farm on the highway heading for Nogales? when i was a kid living in Tucson there was a church called Craycroft Baptist on 22 ,nd street between Craycroft and Alamo. and across the street there was a shop that fixed cars and also raced - i want to say Roger Penski but the first name was Roger. they would take those cars and run them up and down 22,nd and the cops would sit there and clock them . it was there service to help him win. i used to work at Craycroft and Broadway. sure would look different now. the tire place was called Baum and Adamson. yup i sure miss those nites and morning looking at the painted mountains. that is something to watch. been thinkin about comin down there to look around again. it,s not homesickness - i know where home is .. it sure is wonderful what they can do in a crater:bwuhaha::bwuhaha::)--Ed

remember this people ---- the economy is bad when the junk-yards close.... until then we are OK:bwuhaha::giggedy::toot:

One of the yards here ain't doing too well either. Been for sale for some time, and not much business from the local garages and bodyshops.
Best place to buy parts, but parts is all they do and I'm afraid there's not enough to make much profit.

We're slow as hell now too, but part of that is the time of year. The other part is the fact that the metal prices have dropped so much that we (and our competitors) have had to lower the hell out of our car buy prices. That has dropped car buying off to a trickle, and the cars we have are getting pretty picked over. So, if any of you guys would like to sell us your barracudas, dusters, darts, c bodies, challengers, etc. it sure would help us out! I tell you what-if you'll sell us one, I'll waive the $1 entry fee for a couple of days if you want to go browse for parts.

Any takers?
