Dakota Question...

Spawn

I'm just sittin here wasting time.. and
ok.. i have a 93 dakota regular cab short bed with a 3.9 and a 5 spd.. I have yet to figure out why after replacing the engine wiring harness why i can't start it with the key ( i used the key before i replaced the engine harness).. the harness came out of an auto.. thats the only variance that i can figure out.. i originally jumped the neutral saftey switch but later found a plug for the trans with the same color wires (the outside wires) the extra wire i dont know where that would go.. but the outside wires went to the reverse light switch.. im getting ready to drive it to texas and its a pain in the ass to jump the starter every time i shut it off.. although it makes it alot less likely to be stolen..

oh.. and there is no clutch start switch.. they werent used in the dakota until 95...

not yet.. but i figured i would get other peoples ideas on why.. it has to be something stupid.. i know it is...

I do know that on the older Mopars the auto & manual starter relay switches are different.

I'm sure if you could get a wiring schematic you would see the differences. Like you said, "It's something simple"

On an automatic, the neutral safety switch and the reverse-lamp switch are the same part. On a stick, they're two different parts... the switch on the transmission is backup-lamp only. There has to be a clutch switch somewhere, period... whether it's on the pedal or somewhere in the hydraulics, I don't know but it has to be there.

the only thing i can figure is the brown and yellow wire going to the pcm...

i was told by a guy on the dakota forum that i need to ground the extra wire that came from the neutral safety switch.. gonna see if it works tomorrow..

From what I can see, that looks like it. Ground the brn/yel coming from the relay switch.

thanks 68.. i hate trying to decipher those stupid diagrams.. gonna go to my uncles shop tomorrow and see if that does the job..

Well.. grounding that wire diid the trick.. starts from the inside now.. which makes me feel better with my upcoming voyage...
