Back together again

Barney
Yep had her ready to goto beeper to get it alined here. I got 103 miles on it and blew apart 2 half shafts. then the cast 327 crank let go and spun #4 rod bearing. So I bought a forged 383 crank and 6" h beam rods and put it back together. It sports a 388 with 12.5 to 1 compression and the same solid roller custom cam now. It also sits 2" higher hopfully this will cure the half shaft destruction. I should take a pic of it now but the wife has left me and took the camera:mad: . Yes race gas is expensive at $3.99 a gallon, But 110 octane beats 89 octane at $3.00 in my book!

Sure is a lot of pink on that truck [smilie=g:

That motor sounds like it would be pretty nasty. If you're able to borrow a camera that does video with sound, I'd love to hear it.

Ooops, when the thread title said, "Back together again" I thought maybe the sheep were out of quarantine.

It does look pink in that pic. :D It's actually red in person. ;)

Glad you got it back together bro, any guesses on what breaks next? [smilie=f:

Me want ride.

If I had to guess, I'd say the half-shafts will be the recurring problem, or perhaps the transfer case. You're pushing a lot of power through Astro van parts... then again, I like carnage. :D

Hopefully with a taller ride hieght the shafts will have a better chance to survive. It was so low in it's first configuration the angle of shaft to bearing cups was 45 degrees or greater...not condusive to long C/V joint life in any application. :naughty:

Barney informed me there are guys running 9's with the stock Astro van parts..once the bugs are worked out it should hold together.:helpme:

Let's hope so. If that's the case, I predict another engine failure. :D

Should be a hell of a ride once it's all worked out... like I said, I'd love to ride in it.

Got the alignment done for barney on Saturday, then we went for a ride.

Yup, it's fast. :)

Low 12's should be easily attainable and with some tweaking 11's certainly possible...he also has a nitrous system in the works.;)

That little truck is going to suprise alot of people on the street, the exhaust is quiet and at first glance it just looks like another customized S-10 until he hits the go pedal and it rockets away with nary a squeek from the tires. AWD is certainly the answer for maximum traction while still maintaining a "stock" looking ride. [smilie=i:
