Love that tune, this version is just as much fun as the original. :giggedy:

As far as the song goes, I much prefer Ram Jam's original. But then I always like the originals over covers, copys, homages, tributes - whatever you call 'em. I loved the rod until I saw buddy's drum kit could whomp the rod's rear at will. Then the guitarist had it all over the rod too. So while the rod gets full marks for looks, to be beaten by a guy and a drum kit is pretty bad.

I agree. Most drum kits these days aren't really that fast either. sure, they look quick, but this is just another example of deceit by the makers of modern instruments. Caveat Emptor.

I heard the older Ludwigs were real torque monsters off the line but ran out of steam in the upper high hat range. I think I read that when they went to the longer duration, higher timbre snare in 1970 or so and that took care of those issues. But there's no way a decent running small block rod should get taken by a Strat knock off. A real Stratocaster sure, but a clone - c'mon.
Ram Jam played in a bar called the Red Barn just outside of Boston and when they did Black Betty, I thought the crowd was going to tear the place apart. This was just as the song was getting airplay and the drummer's kit would have decimated the newbies. It had twice kicks side by each, chrome reverse tom toms, fully ported floor tom, and a full race straight stand cymbols.

Yea mine are just stockers with the speed-king bass pedal. Ive been thinking about a high rise high hat but cant afford it right now. How much are turbocharged floor toms these days?
