Another one followed me home

This space for rent
When I first seen this bike nearly a decade ago it was love at first sight. I told the owner at that time to contact me when he was ready to sell and it would get a good home.
Yesterday it became mine.

74 CL360 with many custom touches. I'm just thrilled to have this little gem. I will be adding my own custom ideas over the next few months, mostly minor changes. The USA-1 heat shield will be replaced with a stainless or aluminum piece and the battery area will get cleaned up for starters.

Should be a fun little project and good eye candy for the garage.

i too would be proud to have that..the usa1 sheild good god..umm tossed over the shoulder..as well as the square mirror for a small round unit...lucky sob

Had one of those about 25 years ago. Picked it up for $100. :shifty:

I may still have one of those round OEM Honda mirrors. :hmmm:

USA-1 shield got ditched today, big improvement. That ugly assed mirror is for a bicycle, also gone. 1 small round bar end mirror will get the job done. These old Hondas had a funky gas cap latch and mine is broken, the search is on for a replacement.
Plenty work to be done before I fire it up, gas tank needs the inside etched and sealed and I will be going through the carbs.

As 68 knows these bikes are small, about 3/4 the size of my other bikes, perfect for someone 5' 5" tall. My mom had a CB360 about 25 years ago and I would take it out occasionally for a fun back road ride.
Good memories.[smilie=::

what do you use to etch and seal the tank?.....that might have saved me some money on my 86 200 sx fourtrax but i cant complain about a 50$ clark tank..miss listed on ebay lol....but im certain to have taht problem again

I too had a CL360 back in the day when I rode a bike. Was a nice little bike for toolin around. Never really saw too much highway, as I just figured it was too small for the big road.

Two products to choose from that I'm aware of.
KBS coatings (formerly POR-15) makes a tank sealing kit and there is another product called Kreem.

The CL was Honda's attempt at building an off-road bike using an existing powertrain. It ended up being too heavy to toss aroung in the dirt and too light for hiway use.

Fun as hell for whipping around in city traffic though. :giggedy:

Been awhile since I reported my progress with this one. About a month ago I pulled the carbs apart and other than some rust sediment in the bowls they were in great shape. The rubber o-ring bowl gaskets were hard as a rock but I left them alone for now to deal with later.
I picked up a gallon of EvapOrust for the tank and left it in there for a couple weeks. This stuff really works, rust has been replaced with clean metal, amazing. :)
Fast forward to this weekend..
Yesterday I picked up new fuel line, fuel filters, spark plugs and gasket paper. Had enough time to make a new gasket for the points cover before leaving for an appointment.
Today I was determined to have it running. First off I drained the EvapOrust from the tank and flushed it out with the garden hose. After about 10 minutes of drying with compressed air I dumped in a can of Sea-Foam and splashed it around. Drained again, compressed air, looks good!
Installed the tank, new lines, plugs, a freshly charged battery and some fuel. Time to fire this 'ol girl up! First kick with full choke had it sputter briefly, turned the choke off and three kicks later it roared to life! I was thrilled.
I quickly got it off the lift for a quick shakedown ride around the block, twice...I was having a ball. It was running great as I pulled back into the garage and shut it off for a lookover. As suspected the carb bowl gaskets were leaking so I pulled the carbs and made some gaskets. So easy to work on this little bike, carbs were off and on the bench in five minutes.
Re-installed the carbs and it was time for more riding. This time I made several laps around the neighborhood, much to the delight of several young boys whom flagged me down to ask what kinda bike it was. Their ages ranged from 5 to 12 years old and they were spell bound with it's "coolness".
It really barks with those small exhaust baffles and is a total joy to ride, I had forgotten how much fun these little bikes are to ride. It's been over 25 years since I'd last rode a 360 Honda and I've been walking around with a big shiznit eating grin all day.

is that a 6v bike?

Nope, 12 volt. :)

Getting some more work done, after riding it to work a couple times I've been working out some issues. First problem was a plugged fuel tank vent that had me sputter to a stop, soon as I popped the cap the whoosh of air confirmed the problem and I continued on. Cleaned the vent, better now.
Next thing was the shocks, they had zero damping action and were downright scary. Think two pogo sticks and you get the idea, it even affected my ability to maintain a steady throttle after hitting a bump. :D
After much searching on E-Bay I found some cool little piggyback shocks that looked like they would fit so I went for it. They turned out to be a good fit after some minor tweaks. I had to use the stock upper bushing and the lower mounting bolt was smaller. Instead of hogging out and re-tapping the shock clevis I fabbed some sleeves from brass radiator fittings and pressed them in. Worked real nice.

Once installed a test ride proved they work quite nice thank you very much and I yanked 'em off for painting.

I also fabbed a heat shield for the pipes from 3/16" steel rod, I think it turned out pretty decent. Here it is before paint.

Bike night this Thursday at the local drive-in, it should be ready.

dayum those look SWEET..mind if i ask what ya paid and if the seller has more?.....im guessing mine are about the same size and one of mine is umm...bent and empty the other works like new.....hmm maybe those old yamaha ones would work...but i think i scrapped em

They were less than $100 a pair, certainly reasonable. The sellers name is ophir4u and he has many different sizes and styles available.

hmmm im definatly looking into that...the resivoirs actualy look better than i figured they would on your bike...on mine they would look right at home

Custom heat shield is installed and works great.

Not much left to do on it other than change the fork oil, will do that soon. Otherwise it's ready to roll for this year, 'lil bugger makes me grin everytime I fire it up.
