Another N96 in the garage.

As you all know N96 was the factory option code for the Air Grabber hood found on Mopars of old, my RR was one of 'em.

Yesterday I brought home another N96 machine but this one came from Germany and only has 2 wheels.
:shifty:
The 2012 BMW F800GS Trophy Edition is a limited production bike that includes a special blue/white paint scheme, heavy duty hand guards and a bash plate, option code is N96! When I ordered it 6 weeks ago I recieved the build sheet and saw the N96 code I new it was meant to be.....

It's an awesome machine indeed, 472 pounds wet and @76 horsepower makes for a spirited ride and the ABS brakes, feature filled on board computer and heated grips enhance the experience nicely. Traded in my R1200RT and KLR to get it, last brand new bike I bought was my Bandit 1200 12 years ago, a bike I still have and enjoy today. I think this new Beemer is a keeper also as it's perfectly suited to the backroad and offroad shenanigans I very much enjoy.

Sexy and yet, refined in a sense.

It's very.... I'm not sure of the word.... Elegant where elegance is unexpected.

If Daisy Duke liked Grey Poupon, you'd be all set.

And I say all of this in way of a compliment.

I think it's that second pic. It just looks "all dirt bike" in that one.
The first pic shows the refinement...

I wouldn't do too much back muddy roads with that. The front fender is too close to the tire. I had a small bike years ago that built a piece of mud under the fender and dropped down and acted as a front brake. Not nice on a dirt road unexepectedly. The only time the bike dumped me.

damned fine dualsport!!!!...but i want to see some knobbys on it!!!!!!!...course at 500lbs it seems like alot to try and toss around in the dirt....my xl600r is a bit hard to toss in the dirt...welll all things considered compared to say any 250

Isn't off-roading supposed to be a means of "roughing-it" to commute with nature? With that in mind, putting all that refinement and computer technology on a "dirt-bike" seems akin to putting directionals on a horse.

Anyway, it is your bike, for what you want. I've always preferred the smoothness of a paved road. This old body has been beat up too much over the years to subject it to more unnecessarily.

No offense Shorty, but it's not my "cup of tea" :dgt:

Daisy Duke and Grey Poupon eh? That's certainly a unique observation, I like it. [smilie=::

No worrys on that fender dusterman, most of the muddy roads/trails around here are too sandy to pack it in there.

Knobbies will be forthcoming next year, gonna wear these down first. I have a long list of accessories and modifications planned for it and will be adding stuff over the winter.

Here is an entertaining video of the F800GS, enjoy.

And the Ol' coot speaks! :D

Roughing it these days ain't quite as rough anymore, blame technology and progress I suppose. :p You do have a point however and my old KLR was that kind of machine, but the new stuff is just so much better that once sampled the old ways are quickly forgotten.

And yes this bike suits my riding style and habits perfectly, most of which is paved back roads with some gravel roads tossed in the mix. No getting beat up on this style of bike, the long travel suspension is plush on the road and soaks up the bumps with ease. It rides better the the RT I traded in and that's a premium touring machine, but on rough pavement it was not much fun.

No offense taken 68, to each his own and all that. Check out the video I posted, any true hot rodder will get a kick out of it. ;)

abs brakes....in my head that is just sooo wrong on a bike.....there is 1 single luxury i wish i had and thats electric start WITH kick start .....even if my 600 fires first kick

thats a wicked vid of the abuse and such...but....i HATE those boxes!!!!!!...if it wont fit in a backpack it doesnt need to go with me.....and yes i have full plans to be riding my xl600r to victoria and back....250 miles 1 way!!

funny you mention it being soo plush...thats the way my 600 feels compared to the rest of the bikes ive been on over the years....course this is also the very first set of street tires ive ever owned

me i grew up on the dirt and gravel so somewhere in my head any bike thats not capable of dirt has never sat really right in my head....hmm indicators on a horse...gives a whole new meaning to "tail light"

ABS brakes on the street are a big plus but not so much offroad. Luckily BMW is smart enough to install a switch so the ABS can be deactivated for off road use. Not a fan of the side boxes myself but a top box is handy to have. Mounted my soft tail bag today and I will be adding a tank bag also, that should be enough storage for my needs.
With temps in the low 40's and a steady rain I didn't feel much like riding today, will take the long way to work tomorrow.

hell yeah..take the long way home too!!!....a tank bag does seem to be smart..and they have been growing on me..tho im not too sure ill find anything that will slip onto my clarke desert tank LOL....thats really cool that bmw gave you a switch for it thats very smart thinking

I would bet the GOV. Has somthing to do with the ABS. They mandated it on cars, them simi trucks. Why not bikes too?

Got it a little dirty today, felt good. ;) This bike rocks, plenty power, easy handling and good ergos. Power slides on gravel/dirt is big fun, certainly needs knobbies though. Just as good on the open highway, sails along effortlessly at 70. I'm impressed.
