1971 Plymouth GTX - $54,900 - Halton Hills, ON - The Plymouth GTX was introduced by Plymouths division of Chryslers Rapid Transit System to be a "Gentlemans" muscle car. The GTX offered stylish performance for the discriminating buyer a beautiful muscle car spanning the spectrum from fanciful to fearsome. For 1971, GTX was completely redesigned with a curvaceous new "fuselage" aircraft and space motivated styling. These full sized Mopars were incredible looking cars and had a three-inch increase in rear track which benefited handling, new hood cutouts plus a reconfigured interior with a more comfortable driving position and superior ergonomics. The distinctive loop front and rear bumper with the rounded under side profile still looks great today. Sadly this was the final year for the GTX as a stand-alone model and body style as the GTX became an option package on the Road Runner. On the NASCAR circuit, Petty took the Daytona 500 in his 71 Plymouth. Mopar was the slowest of the Big Three to scale back their engines and the GTX stayed true to what the purpose of the vehicle was made for: to go fast, look good and feel good doing it. So in an era in which many manufacturers were backing down from the horsepower wars, the Six Pack equipped GTX still packed a pretty healthy horsepower punch. The Six Pack engine option was cheap at $125 and power was down only five on the 440 still rated at 385 horsepower less than 14 seconds and over 100 mph in the quarter-mile plus 0-60 mph in 5.7 seconds. The cars were incredibly quick and invariably better equipped than most other muscle cars of the era. Here we have a very rare and desirable V-Code GTX with a mid-production year build on February 23, 1971. Records indicate it is 1 of 62 440+6 Pack Manual Transmission GTX Hardtops produced for the USA market. This GTX is to be appreciated for its very low production number and given the unusual option package and it is quite possibly the only one of its kind constructed. The GTX was still the top of the line and this car has a great choice of options so many that there are two fender identification tags to list all the extra cost items. The gorgeous black interior welcomes you into the optional contoured one-piece Black High-Back Bucket Seats facing wood-grain dash and these added options; Tach, , Noise-Reduction Package, wood-grained Rim-Blow Steering Wheel, contoured Console with wood grain, Instrument Panel Hood Release, extensive Interior Light Package, Chrome LH Remote/ LH Manual Racing Mirrors and Tinted-Glass all around. Highlight of the options is the extremely rare Radio AM/FM/MX Stereo Cassette with Dictaphone/Microphone with the front/rear speaker package for the Executive in the fast lane. Stately in Gold Leaf Metallic and Black interior this missile-shaped muscle car did not need any flashy racing stripes just a few reminders with bold White 440+6 decals in the side-hood-scoops and Black versions on the front fenders for others to beware of the Gentlemans Muscle Car. It has the optional Black Accent Stripes highlighting the style lines of the car. As well the optional bright mouldings for the drip rails, body sill and body/wheel openings. The numbers matching 440/6 Pack has 385hp selected through the numbers matching Pistol-Grip Hurst Shift Handle arguably the best looking muscle car shifter. The 4-speed manual transmission connects the A33 Track Pack Dana 60 out back complete with the 3.54 gears. Other options and features include the Hemi-rated Suspension, HD Radiator, PB/front disc brakes, PS, dual horns and dual exhaust with bright gun-barrel exhaust tips. Pavement pounding power is delivered by Rallye Wheels with authentic raised white lettered Good Year Polyglas GT-15 tires. This car came from a notable collection and has the original factory Broadcast sheet. As well this GTX has been featured in a car calendar, the Muscle Car Review magazine and also the hard cover book "Muscle Cars Kings of the Street from the Golden Era" all of which will be passed along to its next caretaker.
